Day 9 A trip to the Jenolan Caves

The plan for Monday was to visit the Jenolan Caves. Driving was definitely better than facing the cold winds, all thanks to a Low in the Tasman, Strange weather, hail storms at home, freezing winds here!

I had found a thermal in the bottom of our luggage bag, thank goodness, 4 layers today!

A fairly long drive, when a kangaroo luckily skidded or would have been road kill, and we arrived at the Jenolan Caves site.

Nothing from then went to plan.  So a coffee to get warm and a decision to drive to Katoomba.

Probably just as well, because I get claustrophobic and we have probably left a visit to the Caves to a time too far down our life span!   Oh to be young again and not have leg problems!

It was disappointing to not even be able to get a brochure in Australian, which might have explained the history of the caves, including the how, what and whys.

A skink trying to get warm.

We had lunch in Katoomba, Unique Patisserie.  Quite a good meal, Malayan Chinese style.

Then we managed to find a Rivers store, and scored some welcome warmer gear.

Katoomba is a rather different place, lots of antiques, and alternative shops.

Then it was out to the Three Sisters.  A magnificent rock formation and in a World Heritage National Park.  The convict gangs and explorers of the early 1800's had it tough.

A little further along the road to another set of falls, the area was surveyed in 1813.
