Day 1 Hervey Bay to Goomeri This area was the home of Ethel Schossow.

A Trip to the Outback of NSW

In this life, my passion is research.  That has led to historical research and family historical research.
With that in mind, this blog follows our trip to Canberra, with our friends Dennis and Mary.  The stay in Canberra coincides with a 50 Year Work Reunion.

Both of our families were born, worked in or lived in some of the remote places in Outback Queensland and New South Wales.   Gold was discovered in NSW in the mid 1800's, gold was the key to a lot of outback development, and gold was the thing that brought our great grandfathers into the country that we are travelling through.

Up bright and early and we left home 12 minutes before scheduled. First stop was Goomeri for pit stop and morning tea. Goomeri was a bustling town in the past days. Cattle and farming were the mainstay when our parents lived and worked  here.  Today it is famous for a Pumpkin festival, last weekend in May, when they have a competition or all things pumpkins including Pumpkin races, when the roll pumpkins down the hill.  On Sunday morning there was not much traffic, as nowdays they rely on tourism.  Cheeses and wines are the new industry. The Clothing Shop provided an insight into the past.

In the past timber felling and getting happened  all around the area.
